Who We Are

Diverse. Traditional. Personal.

The Stony Creek Joint Unified School District is located in a rural area of northern California and serves students from Ladoga to Chrome and from the western edge of the Sacramento Valley to the summit of the Coast Range. The district covers approximately six hundred square miles, of which nearly half is within the boundaries of the Mendocino National Forest. Also included in this area is Grindstone Rancheria, a Nomlaki Indian rancheria. Members from the Pomo and Wintun tribes also attend the school. Our district is small, with a student to teacher ratio of approximately 6:1 which affords the opportunity to work closely with our students and their families to provide an excellent educational experience.

About our Community

This picturesque locale, surrounded by the expansive beauty of the Mendocino National Forest, offers a serene and inviting atmosphere for both learning and living. The natural landscape, characterized by rolling hills, snow-capped mountains, forests, and the clear waters of Stony Creek, provides a backdrop for educational inspiration and outdoor activities. It's not just the scenic views that make Elk Creek special; it's the tight-knit community and a love for learning and personal growth. This unique combination makes Elk Creek not only a beautiful place to live but also a nurturing environment for our students and families.

Elk Creek's tranquility is complemented by its accessibility, being an easy 20-minute drive from Willows on the I-5 corridor. This proximity enhances the blend of rural charm and convenience, making it an ideal setting for those who appreciate both natural beauty and a peaceful commute.
